Legislative Council

The secondary house in the Isle of Man’s governmental system is the Legislative Council, which consists of eleven members, eight of which are elected by the Members of the House of Keys. The remaining Members of Legislative Council are the President of Tynwald (who is elected by Tynwald as a whole), H. M. Attorney General and the Lord Bishop.

The Legislative Council generally acts as a revising chamber for Bills, which are usually introduced in the Keys. Royal Assent to Tynwald Bills is given by the Queen or by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor.
